Actor Bill Ward found fame as Charlie Stubbs in Coronation Street before joining the cast of fellow ITV soap Emmerdale in the role of James Barton
Many people recognize Bill Ward because he had important parts in two of Britain’s most popular soap operas. In 2003, the actor rose to prominence as Charlie Stubbs in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street.
Charlie was embroiled in a high-profile domestic abuse narrative with Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford), which ended with his death. Bill’s stint on the cobbles came to a close in 2007, when the tale finished with his death.
A few years later, in 2013, Bill, 57, appeared as James Barton on ITV’s Emmerdale. He worked on the serial for three years until announcing his resignation in 2016. As a result, James’ leaving tale included a spectacular death.
Despite both of his soap characters being immersed in conflict, Bill has stated that Corrie and Emmerdale have a “family atmosphere” behind the scenes.
“I communicate with many performers from both shows, as well as wardrobe designers. Both programs have a family vibe, with everyone working together. You produce a large amount of television in a short period of time. “The cast relationships are close, but so are the crew relationships because there’s a lot of give and take,” he told the ECHO.
“They’re very enjoyable programs to work on because they’re proper ensembles. Sometimes you’re generating up to 50 pages of television each day, so everyone has to work together, which I miss about those series.
Bill has also appeared in the BBC’s EastEnders, as Mike Parker back in 2003. His other acting credits include The Bill, Heartbeat, After Life, Vera, and Silent Witness. He most recently appeared on Doctors as Mickey Gilmore. He has also appeared in theater shows including Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.
Aside from acting, Bill is an avid photographer who has continued to follow his hobby after leaving his soap roles. He has led photography tours and seminars, as well as received several honors for his work. The actor’s Instagram feed is full of breathtaking photos taken mostly in Cornwall, where Bill also holds courses for aspiring photographers.
